Hedging
Christie-Elite supplies a range of hedging species and mixes to suit most domestic and agricultural hedge applications.
A standard mix generally consists of hawthorn, blackthorn and rose, supplemented by species such as hazel, wild apple, holly, elder, willow, viburnum and beech. Most hedging species are robust and adaptable, capable of establishing successfully on most sites and tolerant of being cut back. The most popular species tend to be those which produce flowers and fruit beneficial to wildlife and attractive to birds and insects.
We normally recommend 6 plants per m for a standard hedge, planted in staggered rows around 30cm apart. It is always a good idea to include some blackthorn to make your sloe gin.
