Closely related to rowan, the Whitebeam has simple, toothed leaves unlike the compound leaves of the rowan. Commonly found on chalk and limestone soils in the wild, Whitebeam will thrive in these conditions but not tolerate an acid soil. Its leaves turn a deep and attractive shade come autumn and it has a high wildlife value on account of its abundant fruit which is highly palatable to birds.
