A U.K. native broadleaf traditionally used as a coppice tree and as a hedgerow species. Capable of growing into a shrubby, multi-stemmed tree of up to c. 8m, the hazel is cultivated in many countries for its edible nuts and its straight-growing poles which are regularly cut and used in traditional hedging techniques.
