Common Juniper (Juniperus communis)
Famous as the primary flavour botanical of gin, juniper is one of our three native conifers. Notable for having the largest range of any woody species in the world, the juniper is under threat in the UK and is the subject of conservation concern. It can grow on acid or alkali soil and is found in many forms in nature, from upright 20m trees to prostrate forms at altitude.
