Goat Willow (Salix caprea)
A small tree with a usual fully grown height of around 6m, though it can be significantly higher. Its leaves are broader than those of most willows, and it bears its distinctive catkins, or pussy willows, in early spring, before its leaves are formed. It will also tolerate much drier soils than other willow species, and in the wild it is often found at the woodland fringe. It is ideal as a garden hedging species.
