A smooth barked maple, the Norway has toothed lobes on its distinctive leaves and tends to stay in leaf longer than many other members of the maple family. The Norway maple is commonly used as a bonsai species on account of its leaf shape and bark texture. The Norway maple will tolerate clay soils, and will prefer a sunny spot, but will cope in a partially shaded position.
