Norway Spruce (Picea abies)
Native to Europe, the Norway Spruce is amongst the most widely planted commercial conifers and is used for timber, paper, as tonewood for guitars and violins and as Christmas trees, most famously as the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree sent to London by the city of Oslo every year. All spruce like damp soil and a cool damp atmosphere and can grow very large – so not ideal for small gardens.
