Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus)
A commonly seen tree, able to grow in most situations through its tolerance of wind, pollution and salt spray and having the distinctive samara as its fruit – the popular “helicopter” seed. This can be planted in all but the poorest soils, and like many maples adds amazing autumn hues to the ornamental garden.
