Wych Elm (Ulmus glabra)

Wych elm is a hardy tree which grows in cool moist locations throughout Europe as far north as the Arctic Circle. In the UK it is mainly found in the north and west of the country. Unlike English elm it produces fertile seed which are wind-dispersed, giving the tree the ability to spread widely and thereby a sporting chance at surviving the depredations of Dutch elm disease.
